SOC "GAP" Insurance Program for Individuals

Are you covered?

While many of you and your peers will have coverage, some of you may not. Even if you are insured, you may not have enough coverage or you may not have adequate coverage for you duties outside of Canada.  This program is open to any SOC (Canadian Resident) iMember from any level of officiating.

Sports Officials Canada has facilitated an excellent Liability and Accident Insurance Program for iMembers with SUTTON SPORTSCOVER Ltd through PEARSON DUNN INSURANCE INC.  The program is totally optional and iMembers may sign up for the coverage at any time.  The total premium is just $16.00 for a full year of coverage. And remember the SOC coverage is a one stop policy for all of your sports.  So if you are a multi-sport official, the coverage is good for all of your activities.

There are two iMembership categories - the Basic Membership for $10 and the Enhanced Membership at $26 includes the insurance package for your officiating activities.  For new members, it’s easy to sign up - just select the “Enhanced Membership” when joining.  Once the premium is paid a “Summary of Insurance” will be sent to you.  There is no form to fill out.  You may pay online or over the phone by VISA or Mastercard or send in a cheque/money order by mail.
Coverage begins when your payment has been received and you have received your certificate of insurance.  You must be an SOC iMember for the insurance to be valid.  If your membership is allowed to expire prior to your insurance, your insurance will also expire.

Why Sports Liability Insurance?

Because of your operations, or actions, you are open for possible suits from Third Parties. You may not be liable but you will need to be defended in court. The Liability policy pays for this defence as well as any costs found against you.
This Liability Policy is designed to cover the insured official/referee while acting in accordance to those activities applied for by Sports Officials Canada. Only those activities that are sanctioned by Sports Officials Canada are covered under this insurance.
The Liability Policy provides coverage in Canada and elsewhere in the world in respect of;
  1. Acts or Omissions occurring in Canada
  2. Acts or Omissions of persons normally a resident in Canada but temporarily engaged in officiating outside Canada
Errors & Omissions Liability protects the insured for negligent acts, errors or omissions anywhere in the world with suits brought in Canada. This section of coverage is written on a “claims made”wording which states that a claim must be made against the insured during the policy period. In the event of any occurrence likely to result in a claim under this insurance, IMMEDIATE NOTICE should be given to Pearson Dunn Insurance.
